Equality and diversity

One of the reasons St Piers College is such a happy, friendly place is because of the way the students accept each other. Equality and diversity encompass everything we do here. Fairness for all is something students take a very active role in promoting for themselves.

Every year, elections are held to appoint a learner representative to the Equality and Diversity Committee. Together with representatives from the executive team and staff, students help run the committee, making sure their voice is heard.

Over the course of the academic year, the committee helps to promote a number of fantastic events, including:

  • Creative arts projects
  • Fundraising activities, e.g. students organised a visit to St Martins in the Field and sent 30 filled shoeboxes abroad; they also began raising funds to train an epilepsy awareness dog.
  • Teaching sessions
  • Key events like Diversity Week – this involves all sorts of activities designed to raise awareness of disabilities, religions and cultures
  • Diversity awareness workshops.

Feedback from parents

Quote Icon My son is a changed person. He never wanted to engage with staff or his peers, often he was non compliant and would not interact in social activities or undertake tasks. He is now so much more proactive, he has learnt home skills where he undertakes tasks using his own initiative either with minimum prompting or totally unsupported.
