St Piers College

Key information

St Piers College is a warm, friendly and unique residential and day college for students aged 19–25.

We have a high proportion of students with epilepsy, autism, severe learning difficulties and complex needs.

We don’t believe any of these conditions or needs should get in the way of students reaching their full potential, achieving their aspirations, enjoying health and wellbeing, and becoming valued members of their community.

That’s why we put the young person at the centre of everything we do and provide a broad and balanced curriculum made up of four key areas delivered through three learner journeys.

These learner journeys are  designed to meet students’ individual needs, nurture courage, confidence and independence, instil values, and provide essential learning and skills for life, work and relationships.

Personal tutors and subject tutors work with learning support assistants and student support workers to plan for teaching, learning and assessment.

Each student has a personal and social development programme with daily sessions covering a range of subjects.

Residential students enjoy a ‘Waking day’ curriculum delivered by College and residential staff.

Mainstream colleges provide external credited and non-accredited programmes for various transferrable work skills and functional skills.

Students receive valuable careers advice and work experience through the Supported Internship Programme and College Enterprise Project.

Students are also encouraged to express themselves through the Learner Voice group, and take part in a wide range of events and activities intended to deepen their appreciation of all aspects of fairness and respect for others.
