Transition
Moving on from college can be a daunting prospect. At St Piers College we start to prepare students for life after college from the time they join us, helping them form realistic aims and liaising with external agencies to achieve them.
- Before they start we meet each student individually to assess their needs – then provide a specific, tailored induction programme.
- In the final year students follow a self-sufficiency course to ensure they have the confidence and skills for the future.
- In the last few weeks normally in the summer, we make contact with local support groups to ensure students continue to have a network of support once they’ve left.
To give them the support they need for the future, we hold student and parent transition days; create personalised leaver planning; have a strong partnership with Connexions, the career advisers, as well as extensive external support from employment agencies, care managers, social services, primary care trusts and Transition Support team advisors
